As explained in API RP 2A, "offshore structures accumulate marine growth to some degree in all the world’s oceans. Marine growth is generally greatest near the mean water level [...]".

Marine growth increases the mass of the structure. Let's take a 40 inch diameter leg in 130 feet water depth. An 8-inch thick marine growth will result in 40 additional metric tons.

Marine growth increases wave forces by increasing member diameter and surface roughness.

Consequently, it affects significantly the strength of the platform, its dynamic and fatigue behavior and can reduce its remaining life.

Regular cleaning of the subsea structures using jet blasting technologies will ensure a longer life to your platform.
